Field note 03 · Weather
Things found after rain
Rain changes the handwriting of the woods. Bark goes nearly black. Lichen brightens. The smell of soil rises. Things that were invisible yesterday push through the leaf litter overnight.
Mushrooms appear with the confidence of furniture that has always been there. Beetles cross paths that were dry and empty before. Snails take their time across every available surface.
The easiest way to see a different forest is sometimes to visit the same one twelve hours later.
After rain, the small world moves closer to the surface.
